The Day That Changed everything
Ding ding ding-ding ding ding. Kelly’s left hand plopped about her bedside table trying to find her phone to turn off that annoying alarm. Ding ding di- finally she slid her index finger silencing her alarm for that Saturday morning. Laying in bed content with the sound of the train station across the street and the voice of conductors shouting “Next train to Boston leaving in 5 minutes-5 minutes!”
Every Saturday Kelly takes the train into Boston to earn some extra cash. Kelly enjoyed passing out the local newspapers, sweeping small restaurant floors and any type of side hustle she could find. Kelly was driven and motivated. All her life people made fun of her Indian culture. They would laugh at the fact that her father owned a convenient store and that she was still considered low income. Kelly loved her family and would do just about anything for their happiness.
Kelly threw on her blue jeans and her favorite pink top. She popped a brown sugar pop tart in the toaster for her breakfast and grabbed a water on her way out. On her way she saw her best friend Jackie headed for the train as well!
“Jackie! Wait up girly!” Kelly shouted. Jackie turned around and motioned her to run faster. They both ran to catch the train making it just in time. The trains seats were leather red seating 3 per row.
“Girl that was close, what took you so long? You slept in again?” Jackie said to Kelly while taking her place on the train seats.
“Calm down I always make it in time. Always so dramatic.” Kelly took her seat and rummaged through her bag for her headphones. She plugged them into her phone and listened to Brittany Spears top hits. Jackie noticed Kelly put her headphones in and did the same thing listening to The Beatles on the way to Boston.
Kelly and Jackie lived in Quincy Massachusetts. The duration of the train ride would be approximately 25 minutes.
While Kelly is bobbing her head to “Circus” she looks up at Old Man Sandler. Old Man Sandler was this creepy fellow who always sat next to Jackie and Kelly. Some say he was obsessed with them, others say he was a lonely old man who just didn’t understand his place in life. He walked up to them and waved hello.
Jackie saw him through her peripheral vision and ignored him. He then tapped on her shoulder and she looked up. “Old ma-“ Kelly elbowed her in the rib signaling her to stop talking. They called him Old Man Sandler behind his back but to everyone else he was just Adam.
“ADAM” Jackie said “how are you?”
“Evening girls. You two honey rabbits read the paper today? We got some exciting stuff!”
Kelly subtly rolls her eyes, “Whats in the paper today Adam?” He holds the Metro Boston paper right up to her face. Kelly reads the cover aloud in a hushed tone, “Boston Set to Open High Anticipated Casino today at noon”
Jackie snatches the paper from her hand and reads the cover for herself. “Girl OMG we have to go!”
“Sis I am not wasting my hard earned COINS are you nuts?”
“That’s the thing you are scared of anything youre not used to! Lets just go and spend some time on the slots”
Adam interrupts, “You hot mamas better think quick the stop is in 5 minutes”
“See for once I agree with Adam! Lets just go check it out! They are building a casino HERE in Boston! Lets just see what the hype is about”
“3 minutes to Boston! 3 minutes to Boston” yelled the conductor.
“Fine lets just check it out but I swear nothing stupid got it?” Kelly said.
“Ahh lets go!” She grabs Kelly by the hand and brings her to the train door. “Bye Adam!” she shouts while running to the front. Kelly groaning while being brought to the front.
They exit the train and look up at Encore a beautiful casino
